What is a sugar hangover?

Why we are selective with sugar

A Sugar Hangover! Have you heard of it? Maybe you've had one!

A "sugar hangover" is real! At first you may feel jittery or "energized" from a rise in your blood sugar, but a few hours after consuming too much sugar, like ultra-processed snacks, candy, soft drinks, etc. you may experience headaches, nausea, fatigue, brain fog, which is the result of your blood sugar dipping. This happens because after you eat these high sugar foods, your pancreas may over-excrete insulin to compensate for the sugar load intake, which causes blood sugar to drop. It's basically a roller-coaster with your blood sugar, which is not ideal, especially on a regular basis.

A solution to sugar hangover?

Aim for better-for-you sweeteners that have less of an impact on your blood sugar.

What do we use and why?

We use only organic Maple and Coconut Sugar, and an extremely modest amount!

Maybe you've seen raw cane sugar, stevia, erythritol, sorbitol, and monk fruit (which usually contains erythritol) in new sweet treats entering the market. We prefer to stick with maple and coconut because we know where they came from, they've been around for centuries, they have nutritional benefits (zinc, magnesium, calcium, potassium, iron), and are least likely to be ultra-processed or contain fillers. Plus, they've been shown to have a low or lower impact on blood sugar levels as compared to white or cane sugar.

So stick with us and our baking mixes for your sweet treat fix!
